MetaSAN
SAN Recovery - MetaSAN
MetaSAN is type of storage area network (SAN) management software for OS X, Linux and Windows. It is developed by Tiger Technology.
MetaSAN enables multiple users to share one or more high-speed RAID devices with multiple computers using various interconnect technologies such as iSCSi, Ethernet or Fibre Channel. Each computer in the network can read and write to the same storage volume at the same time.
MetaSAN arbitrates accesses to shared storage devices with the help of a metadata controller (MDC). MDC is the master computer, and all others are clients of the SAN. In metaSAN, usually the computer that boots first gains the MDC status. However, users can define priorities and assign a specific computer as a dedicated MDC.
The clients communicate with the MDC and send metadata requests to it over LAN. Once these requests have been approved, clients can access the storage device directly.
MetaSAN is hardware agnostic. It can work with off-the-shelf storage and networking components.
MetaSaN is compatible with standard applications such as Adobe Production Studio and Apple Final Cut Pro. It also enables collaboration among multiple users of Avid editing software on the same volume.
Several film and video editors, digital artists, healthcare specialists, and corporate customers use MetaSAN to gain simultaneous access to a common pool of data such as video clips, satellite imagery, medical files and work on them as if they are stored in their local drives.
MetaSAN is a fully-featured cross-platform SAN solution. It innovates with true file sharing, native OS file system, and access rights management to ensure a reliable network storage.
