Proware Technology Corporation manufactures Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) storage array hardware and software. Originally established as a PC manufacturer, Proware quickly expanded into storage area. Proware’s product line also includes network-attached storage (NAS) solutions. Proware’s flagship product is the Epica series released in 2006.
Milestones
Hardware Products
- In 1994, Proware began designing direct attached storage subsystems.
- In 1996, Proware released first RAID subsystem, Power-5000 series. This design gained the credit to Proware as the first company to incorporate a backplane design into RAID subsystems.
- In 1988, Proware released Fibre RAID series of products.
- The year 1999 witnessed the release of Otto di Oro, Bambino, and Simbolo series RAID subsystems.
- In 2001, Proware brought in the SAN-Ready Fibre Channel products to the market.
- In 2004, Proware released Ultra 320 RAID subsystems and its iSCSI solution. Proware also launched EPICA, a 42-bay storage system, thus becoming one among the top 3 storage solution providers at this density.
Software Products
- In 1996, Proware released Dataware, High-Availability (HA) clustering software.
- In 2001, Proware introduced its NAS operating system based on Free-BSD.
- In 2002, Proware introduced its data backup software solution – proBackup.
- In 2003, the company developed and released its Linux kernel 2.4 version of NAS.
- In 2005, Proware released the Linux kernel 2.6 version of NAS with HA.
Proware was established by Richard Chiang, Willy Shiau, and S.T. Kuo in 1992. The company is headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan.
