NAS Recovery - Synology
Synology Inc. is a Taiwanese manufacturer of network attached storage (NAS) devices for SOHO and SMB customers. The company was founded in 2000. Synology products are characterized by their small footprint and energy efficiency. Synology products are popular in Europe, Asia, and Japan. In North America, they are supplied through online retailers such as Newegg and Tigerdirect.
Synology products are based on Linux, but they support only Windows and Mac OS X clients. However, they can be used from Linux clients after installation from a supported OS.
Most of the Synology devices have similar features, though they differ in performance and storage capabilities. The lower-end models also lack some security capabilities such as SSL and ADS capabilities provided in the higher versions of products.
Most of the Synology products are connected via Ethernet and USB ports while some models feature eSATA port for connecting external hard drives. By default, Synology NAS products do not contain hard drives.
Important Products
Disk Station: A single or dual bay enclosure, designed for SOHO users. The current version comes in two models – one or two terabytes.
Cube Station: A quad-bay storage device, with up to four terabytes of total storage.
Rack Station: A quad-bay 1U format Rack Mount storage server, designed for Rack Mount Environment. Similar in capabilities as the Cube Station, the Rack Station also includes Hot-Swap Hard Drives.
The primary purpose of all Synology products is to expand or supplement the storage needs of the user, using the NAS structure. Along with this, they also provide data backup services and multimedia streaming. They can also act as light-weight Web server.
