RAID Recovery - Data loss

Data Recovery Services

If data loss occurred due to deletion or corruption in file system, it can be repaired by the user or the system administrator by selecting appropriate software tools. A deleted file is rarely overwritten on the disk, so the file can be restored by reversing the file deletion process using appropriate software tools.

Only an effective backup strategy can help recovery from data loss. Even with an effective backup strategy, sometimes it may not be possible to bring the system back to the original state. The most practical backup system should have the duplicate copies of every file and programs that were immediately accessible when the data loss event occurred. Even then, some levels of compromise in granularity of restorability are required, especially for data loss events that occurred before a significant period in the past.

Prevention of Data Loss

The only way to ensure data safety is to adopt preventive measures.

Data loss due to power outage may be prevented by using appropriate power backup facilities such as multiple power circuits with battery backup and generator. Data loss occurring due to power failure or system crash can be prevented by using journaling filesystem and Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disk (RAID). Using up-to-date anti-virus software and firewalls, one can ensure that the data is safe from malicious attacks. Regular data backup works as the best strategy to ensure data safety.

Summary: Data loss refers to an unexpected loss of data. The most common causes of data loss are human errors and hardware failures. By adopting effective data backup strategies, data loss can be dealt with.
