Hard Drive Recovery - Macintosh

Macintosh or Mac is a series of personal computers developed and marketed by Apple Inc. The first Macintosh was introduced in 1984. Mac computers were the first ones to use mouse and graphical user interface (GUI) instead of the command-line interface. Original Mac OS desktop users communicated with the computer using a metaphorical desktop that displayed items that they were already familiar with.

Currently Mac systems are mainly targeted at the home, education and creative professional markets. Some of the popular models include iMac, Mac mini desktop models, Mac Pro tower, the MacBook series of products and the Xserve server.

Mac is built on a vertical integration model. It facilitates all aspects of the hardware and incorporates its own operating system pre-installed on all Mac computers. Apple exclusively produces Mac hardware. They use third-party components, however. They have used AIM alliance’s PowerPC and Motorola’s 68k. Of late, Mac CPUs have been built on Intel x86 architecture.

Mac currently uses Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. The modern Mac can run alternate operating systems such as Linux, FreeBSD and Microsoft Windows, though PCs running these operating systems cannot use Mac OS.

Apple launched the first portable Macintosh in 1989. It was available till 1991 and could run System 6 and System 7. The first consumer-level laptop, iBook, was introduced in 1999. Apple continued to add more products to its lineup. Some of them include eMac for academic purpose, PowerBook G4 laptop for professionals, Mac Mini- the cheapest Mac, and the MacBook Pro – the first Mac notebook to use an Intel processor.
