Intel Core 2
Hard Drive Recovery - Intel Core 2
The Core 2 brand refers to a range of Intel 64-bit x86-64 CPUs available in single-core (Solo), dual-core (Duo) and quad-core (Quad) models. The Core 2 brand was introduced on July 27, 2006.
Core 2 CPUs are based on Intel Core microarchitecture. The single- and dual-core models are single die, whereas the quad-core model consists of two dies, each of which contains two cores and packaged in a multi-chip modules.
The Core 2 branded processors feature virtualization technology, Execute Disable Bit and SSE3. Also included in the Core microarchitecture are features such as SSSE3, Trusted Execution Technology, Enhanced SpeedStep and Active Management Technology (iAMT2).
Core 2 has TDP of up to only 65W. Because of this, the Core 2 dual-core Conroe (the first Intel Core 2 Duo branded processor core) consumed only half the power of less capable, but also dual-core Pentium D-branded desktop chips. Thus they were more energy efficient and created less noise.
Other popular Core 2-branded CPUs include Merom (dual-core for laptops), Kentsfield (quad-core for desktops), and their variants named Penryn (dual-core for laptops), Wolfdale (dual-core for desktops, low-end dual-core for desktops) and Yorkfield (quad-core for desktops).
In 2007, Intel released the Extreme (dual- or quad-core CPUs for enthusiasts) version. Intel Core 2 processors with vPro technology are designed for businesses, and they include the dual-core and quad-core branches.
