Intel Core
Hard Drive Recovery - Intel Core
Intel Core refers to Intel’s 32-bit mobile (low-power) dual-core x86 CPUs derived from Pentium M branded processors. The Core was launched on January 5, 2006 with the release of the 32-bit Yonah CPU, Intel’s first dual-core mobile processor. The Core brand has two models: Duo (dual-core) and Solo (Duo with one disabled core).
The dual-core architecture resembles two interconnected Pentium M branded CPUs packaged as a single die. Hence, contrary to its name, the 32-bit micro-architecture of Core branded CPUs had more in common with the Pentium M branded CPUs than that of the subsequent 64-bit Core branded CPUs. Though Intel did a major re-branding, some computers with the Yonah core are still marked as Pentium M.
Core series claims the credit as the first Intel processor to be used as the main CPU for an Apple Macintosh computer. Intel Core Duo, the world’s first low-power (less than 25 watts) Yonah dual-core microprocessor, was the first Intel processor to be used in Apple Mac products. Core Duo signified the beginning of the use of Intel processors in Apple’s entire computer line. Core Solo was used in Apple’s Mac Mini line.
Intel’s x86-64 implementation (Intel 64) is not supported by Yonah. However, Intel 64 support is integrated in Yonah’s successor, the mobile version of Core 2, code-named Merom.
