Macintosh Quadra
Macintosh Recovery - Macintosh Quadra
Macintosh Quadra was a series of professional high-end Macintosh personal computers produced from Apple during the period 1991-1994. Quadra series of computers was built using the Motorola 68040 CPU. They replaced the Macintosh II series as the high-end computer in the Macintosh product line.
The first models to be introduced were the Quadra 700and Quadra 900 in 1991. They had a CPU speed of 25 MHz. The 900 model was later replaced with the Quadra 950 that had a CPU speed of 33 MHz. Also introduced are the 800-series machines with a new minitower case design, and the 600-series pizza box desktop cases.
In 1993, Apple released the Quadra AV series with two models: the 800-series Quadra 840AV and the 600-series Quadra 660AV at 40 MHz and 25 MHz respectively. They featured an AT&T Digital signal processor and S-Video and composite video input and output ports for video as well as CD-quality microphone and audio output ports. The AV models also introduced a text-to-speech software MacinTalk Pro and speech control.
The last one to use the name Quadra was the Quadra 630, which was a variation of the LC 630 using a full Motorola 68040 instead of the LC’s 68LC040. Quadra 630 was the first Mac to use an IDE based drive bus for the internal hard disk drive instead of the SCSI used in earlier machines.
Quadra 800 and Quadra 950 were the bases of Apple’s first Workgroup Server models, the WGS 80 and the WGS 95 respectively.
