HP ProLiant DL380 G5 is a standalone network attached storage (NAS) solution that enables users to add high-performance network file storage to their enterprise or workgroup IT environments. It also helps add new data services to a storage area network (SAN).
With a single, centralized server, users can consolidate files to a single platform, or create a disk-based backup target. DL380 G5 Storage Server supports multiple protocols including SMB/CIFS, NFS, HTTP, FTP, WebDAV, AppleTalk, and NetWare protocols, so it can be installed in a wide range of heterogeneous file serving environments. The new DL380 G5 Storage Server comes pre-installed with Microsoft Windows-based operating system and HP All-in-One Storage Manager, so it is easy to deploy and manage.
The base model of the storage server is ready for enclosure expansion. The 1.16 TB SAS is ready for internal storage and the 6-drive MSA60 bundles are available for external storage, and the SAN Gateway model enhances the SAN/array by adding data services to it. The SAN Gateway model is a file / iSCSI gateway into a SAN or array. It creates IP-based access to virtually unlimited storage. Apart from enabling file services, the SAN Gateway also helps tier block access via inexpensive Ethernet infrastructure, and can host Windows-based storage management applications.
